Cabela’s announced today plans to celebrate the official grand opening of its new Gainesville, Va., store on Thursday, March 9, with a unique ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a weekend-long celebration offering events, giveaways, family activities, guest appearances and more.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by Cabela's executives, will begin at 9:45 a.m. and conclude with the grand-opening ribbon being cut by an arrow shot from a bow by a local Cabela’s employee. Doors to the new store will open for business at 10 a.m.
Opening day will kick off a weekend-long celebration highlighted by special appearances, family events, giveaways, sales and more. A complete schedule of events will be available on www.cabelas.com/stores when finalized.
The 79,999-square-foot store is located at 5291 Wellington Branch Drive, adjacent the Virginia Gateway Center. Upon opening, it will become Cabela’s first location in the Washington D.C. metro area and the third in the state of Virginia, joining stores in Short Pump and Bristol.
The store is being designed to offer customers an immersive outdoor experience, complete with Cabela’s signature Conservation Mountain and wildlife-display feature, dozens of museum-quality taxidermy mounts, vintage outdoor photos and memorabilia, and a regionally specific theme and habitat feature.
Additionally, the store will include an archery and firearm tech room, indoor archery range and Bargain Cave, along with thousands of high-quality outdoor products from a variety of well-known brands.
Cabela’s has employed approximately 175 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees to staff the location, most coming from the surrounding area.A concrete plant was demolished in 2015 to make way for the store. Then the company announced it would not build the store, and then backtracked and announced it would build it after all.

The new Baldwin Elementary School in Manassas closed its doors Tuesday and will be closed again Wednesday due to a pipe burst.
The pipe burst at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to school officials. The temperature at Washington Regan National Airport at that time was 17 degrees.

There are signs of life at an old Bob Evans Restaurant at 13900 Noblewood Plaza.
We spotted new awnings at the eatery, and crews working at the restaurant space near the intersection of Prince William Parkway and Minniville Road in Woodbridge.
The property was purchased by Dody Ventures for $1.65 million in August, according to Prince William County records. The property was built in 2004 and opened as a Bob Evans. The restaurant later closed, however, another nearby Bob Evans is still in business at the intersection of Smoketown Road and Gideon Drive.
