MISSION BBQ announced on January 5, 2017 that thanks to the generous support of our customers, the total donation to the local National Guard is $42,839. The donation total is from 10% of gift card sales sold between November 25 and December 31 at all 40 locations. The National Guard is an essential element of the U.S. military. Always on guard to defend the American way of life in an emergency, they are a force ready for whatever is needed in our communities.
We will be making the donation to the Fredericksburg Virginia National Guard.

Suspicious Death – On January 12 at 12:40PM, officers responded to the 1500 block of Cherry Hill Rd in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a death. The caller reported to police that while walking in the above area, a man’s body was observed along the shoreline of the Potomac River. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the Homicide Unit are investigating the death as suspicious. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for further examination and autopsy. The victim’s identification will be released once confirmed and a next of kin has been notified. The investigation continues.

A state lawmaker and his supporters Thursday defended legislation telling transgender individuals which bathroom they must use – a proposal that Gov. Terry McAuliffe has vowed to veto.
House Bill 1612, proposed by Del. Bob Marshall, R-Manassas, would require people in public schools and government buildings to use the restroom for the sex shown on their original birth certificate.
The bill also would require the principal of a public school to notify the parent or guardian if a child requests to be identified by the name, pronoun or treatment “inconsistent with the child’s sex.”

The Department of Environmental Quality will host an information briefing on a proposed environmental permit for the Dominion Possum Point power station in Prince William County.
The meeting will be held at Potomac Senior High School, 3401 Panther Pride Drive, Dumfries, VA 22026 on January 26, 2017, beginning at 7 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be held February 2, 2017, at the same location and time.

On Wednesday, January 11th at 10:40 a.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire located in a single family home in the 12900 block of Vixen Court in Bristow.
Upon entry firefighters observed a fire in the kitchen microwave that extended to the kitchen cabinets. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Kathy Strauss from Imagewerks Photography and Art presented Wednesday at 1 Million Cups.
Strauss discussed with the group of about 20 people in attendance her efforts to offer more photography solutions to her customers, which include the Prince William Chamber of Commerce. She also talked about an upcoming photography cruise, which is a new venture for her company.
1 Million Cups Prince William meets at 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas. The group brings an entrepreneur to the front of the room each week to talk about their business. The leader also presents a challenge question to the group, and the group helps to mastermind a solution to the challenge.

Larceny – Arrest
At approximately 12:20 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2017, Manassas City Police responded to Seton School, located at 9314 Maple St, for a report of a larceny that had just occurred. The reporting party told officers that a female driver drove onto campus, took multiple, unattended book bags from a table in front of the school, and drove away. With the assistance of the Manassas City Police Traffic Services Unit, officers quickly identified and located the suspect, Casey A. MHIRE, 31. MHIRE was arrested without incident and charged with Grand Larceny. Items that were stolen along with the book bags were valued altogether at approximately $1,500 and included personal items, wallets, school supplies, and electronics.

Last week, tolls were set at $30 ahead of what was expected to be an overnight snowstorm.
