MANASSAS — This past weekend’s canceled Civil War Weekend was a missed opportunity for business owners, residents and history buffs.

The annual event draws re-enactors and tourists for a series of events including a parade, and social dance. The city canceled the event in light of a protest in Charlottesville where one woman was killed by a white nationalist who is accused of driving his car into a crowd of counter protesters on the street.

MANASSAS — New signs designed to make it easier to find parking in Downtown Manassas could be installed before Christmas.

The new blue signs with a large “P” printed on them, the international symbol to denote vehicle parking, will replace the traditional brown signs that match other street signs in downtown.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Fire and rescue officials in Prince William County are watching the disastrous effects Hurricane Harvey is having in Houston.

While the storm may be nearly 1,400 miles away, officials here know hurricane season is far from over. And they urge residents to be prepared should a Harvey-like storm take aim at our region.

MANASSAS — A group marching from Charlottesville to Washington demanding the removal of President Trump, while “confronting white supremacy” will march through Manassas.

The 110-mile, 10-day “March to Confront White Supremacy” begins today in Charlottesville will follow Route 29 north through Fauquier County. Then, marchers will turn onto Route 28 and march to Manassas on Sunday, Sept. 3.
