PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — The founder of Pearmund Cellars in Fauquier County is ready to open his next venue, in Prince William.
A new winery, Effingham Manor, will open by the end of the month on Trotters Ridge Place in Nokesville. It will sit on the site of a 250-year-old plantation built for William Alexander, the great grandson of John Alexander for whom Alexandria, Va. is named.
MANASSAS — A United Bank location in Manassas was robbed today.
A man walked into the financial center at 9626 Center Street at 1:27 p.m., implied he had a gun, and demanded cash.

WOODBRIDGE — Police are investigating a string of armed robberies that occurred Sunday and Monday in the Woodbridge area.
The robbers brandished firearms in each of the incidents. The description of the suspects in each a case is similar.

DUMFRIES — Pets rescued from Hurrican Irma are looking for new homes in our area.
The Prince William Humane Society worked to bring 28 dogs and 16 cats from hurricane-ravaged Florida to the county’s animal shelter, and to its adoption center in Dumfries.
GAINESVILLE — Drivers on Featherbed Lane watch out: Fines for speeding will increase.
New signs are warning drivers an additional fine of up to $200 will be installed along the two-lane thoroughfare in western Prince William County. According to county documents, based on the number requests from residents for speed enforcement, as well as speed studies completed in the area, “Featherbed Lane has a documented speeding problem.”
