On June 13 at 7:30 p.m., the Hylton Performing Arts Center hosts the Heroes’ Voices National Poetry Contest Reading, an evening of live music and poetry that explores many perspectives on war, peace, and military service. The performance culminates the Heroes’ Voices National Veterans Poetry Contest, which is a cooperative venture between Heroes’ Voices in San Francisco, CA and George Mason University in Manassas, VA. This event is free and open to the public, and more information can be found at HyltonCenter.org/veterans.

STAFFORD — Residents must wait another two weeks before they find out if Stafford leaders will fund the construction of a new courthouse.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to kick the can down the road when it comes to approving its annual capital improvement budget on Tuesday. The Board will now take up the 10-year, $458 million proposed plan at its next meeting on Tuesday, June 19.

Tuesday, June 5, at approximately 1:00pm, Manassas City Police received a call from Prince William County Police Emergency Communications Center advising they received a 911 call from an unknown male stating he had a gun and was experiencing a mental health crisis near a Manassas City Public School.

STAFFORD — School buses are expected to roll again on Tuesday, but not down this street.

This past weekend’s heavy rains caused a small landslide, also called a “slope failure,” on Bells Hill Road in Stafford County. A fissure formed in the road as soil on the embankment below slid down into the waters of the Austin Run.
