6 Bears & a Goat Brewing Co.’s Mae West Blonde Ale has earned a gold medal in the 2018 Virginia Craft Beer Cup competition. The Virginia Craft Brewers Guild (VCBG) announced the award for the Fredericksburg-area brewery Monday during the group’s annual meeting in Richmond.
MANASSAS — Workers who’ve been on strike for three weeks against Didlake Inc., including several with disabilities, took their grievances to the company’s Manassas headquarters Thursday morning with the support of local elected officials.
The workers voted in April to form a union, culminating a yearlong effort aimed at improving their pay and health-care benefits. But Didlake has refused to recognize those efforts while awaiting a ruling from the National Labor Relations Board, stemming from the company’s appeal of a decision that favored the workers.

Today, owner Randy Barnette tells us he’s moving to a smaller location in Fairfax. The brewery and restaurant will soon launch a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds for the relocation. Also, Barnette says he plans to reopen an Ornery location in Woodbridge once again, however, he did not say when.

STAFFORD — A wife, mother of six, and strategic planner, now Vangie Williams will add another title to her resume — congressional candidate.
Williams, of King George, won the Democratic nomination to run for a seat in the U.S. House in Virginia’s 1st District, a seat long held by Republican Rob Wittman. Williams beat her two challengers in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary Election Edwin Santana, of Stafford, by seven points, and Prince William County native turned Hanover County resident John Suddarth by nearly 13 points.
