DUMFRIES — Water crews mopped up a mess in Dumfries.
Workers fixed a burst 12-inch water main Wednesday evening that snarled traffic in Virginia’s oldest, continuously chartered town. The pipe, located between Tripoli Boulevard and Old Stage Coach Road, ruptured about 1:30 p.m. Crews had the water shut off about 15 minutes later, but the damage to the afternoon commute had been done.

STAFFORD — The Stafford County School Board will vote on its 2019-2020 school year calendar at on June 26.
The Board will consider two options for the school year: One would be a pre-Labor Day start. The year would begin on August 12 and conclude in late May.
STAFFORD — Jordan Nicole Garrison, 21, of Stafford, died last Friday in what her obituary states was a “tragic car accident.”
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office closed a portion of White Oak Road in the area of Town and Country Drive for four hours on Friday, June 15. Deputies were investigating a fatal crash that took the life of a 21-year-old woman, authorities said.

A woman from Lorton was struck after she pulled off on the side of Interstate 95 south at the Purple Heart Bridge over the Occoquan River.
We don’t yet know why she stopped.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — In the hall of heroes, Charlie T. Deane on Tuesday was honored.
Deane was the longest-serving police chief in the Washington, D.C. region when he retired after 42 years with the department. One of the original 42 officers that formed the Prince William County Police Department in 1970, Deane served as its second leader for 24 years, from 1988 to 2012.
