The City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department’s newest recruit began his tenure this week: Chief William A. Garrett.

Garrett, a Fairfax County native, and the first African-American to hold this position in the city replaced former fire chief Rob Clemons, who announced his retirement in late February. Clemons had been in the position since 2016, having replaced former longtime Chief Brett Bowman.

Guns are welcome in Stafford County Government buildings and parks.

The Board of Supervisors resolved to not pass any new ordinances banning guns during its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020. The move comes nine months after the Board of Supervisors declared the county a 2nd-Amendment sanctuary, where the rights of gun-owning residents afforded to them by the U.S. Constitution would be protected.

The Fredericksburg City Council has opened public comments regarding a set of resolutions to make a new  Creative Maker Zone a reality.

The creative maker district would span an over 78-acre area of Downtown Fredericksburg which would encompass the Area 6 district, which lies between the Rappahannock River and the Rappahannock Canal and would include Princess Anne Street as well as where Princess Anne and Route 1 intersect.

Some Prince William County residents who live in the Brentsville District, the most rural area of the county, weighed in on future plans to develop the region.

Increased development was a common point of dissatisfaction among many residents. Loss of green space, increased congestion, and overcrowded schools were cited reasons for why many oppose new development in the county.

Stafford County leaders are exploring the possibility of charging users of two popular riverside parks $10 per car to enter the parks.

This summer, parking lots at Historic Port of Falmouth Park on the Rappahannock River, and Aquia Landing on the Potomac River have been full. While many put off summer vacations to beach destinations because of the coronavirus, locally, the beaches have been packed with users.
