The University of Mary Washington and Fredericksburg, long-time partners, have teamed up again in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus in the local community.

In-person classes resumed at the University of Mary Washington on September 14, after a three-week delay prompted by the pandemic.

Three Republican candidates seeking a seat on the Manassas City Council say they’ll stay focused on small businesses and reduce the tax burden on city residents who pay the second-highest property tax rate in Virginia.

Harry Clark, a city resident of nearly 30 years, is making his first run at elected office. Since 2002, he’s served on multiple city boards and commissions to include the Planning Commission and the Board of Equalization.

Maxine Lynch, 85, born September 8, 1935 began her homegoing journey on October 17, 2020 at her home in Fairfax, Virginia.

Born in Corinna, Maine, Maxine preceded in death by her parents, Harold W. Covel and Gladys (Chase) McLaughlin; son, Gary Whiting; 2 brothers, Arthur W. and Donald E. Covel, Sr.; 4 sisters, Evelyn Louise Pearl, Ellen Safford, Roberta Pratt, Dorothea Covel.

The Fredericksburg City Council passed an amendment to the city ordinance on petit larceny. With the move, the city’s code now matches Virginia State Code.

The Commonwealth of Virginia currently defines petit larceny as stealing from person money or anything of value of less than $5 or the value of goods unlawfully taken from a person.

The U.S. District Court has ordered an extension to the voter registration deadline for the Nov. 3, 2020, General and Special elections. Voters may continue to register through Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020.

Pursuant to the court’s order, the registration deadline for the Nov. 3, 2020, Presidential Election is 11:59 p.m. Oct. 15, 2020.
