Politicians, Residents Vow Keep Up Bi-County Parkway Fight

MANASSAS, Va. –– Opponents of the Bi-County Parkway Wednesday told lawmakers they won’t back down when it comes to stopping a proposed highway near Manassas National Battlefield Park.

More than 100 protesters holding signs that stated “follow the money” and “developer road” gathered outside the Sudley United Methodist Church in the Manassas Battlefield, and were cheered on during a press conference by a handful of like-minded Republican politicians all working to send a message to Gov. Robert F. McDonnell and Transportation Secretary Sean Connughton: Slow down the decision-making process and consider other options for the Bi-County Parkway.

Weems Shows Off New School Uniforms, A Gift from Ellen DeGeneres

MANASSAS, Va. — Last year, Weems Elementary School in Manassas received a donation from the Ellen DeGeneres Show and Shutterfly to promote the new uniform initiative at the school.

On the first day of school Tuesday, students at Weems walked the red carpet showing off those new uniforms to proud teachers, parents and community members.

Focusing on Seniors Matters, Connolly to Hold Conference at Westminster

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Congressman Gerry Connolly will host his annual Senior Issues Forum on Thursday at Westminster at Lake Ridge in Prince William County. Citizens interested in learning more about legislative matters and other issues concerning seniors and retirees are invited to attend.

Representatives from the AARP, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Social Security Administration, and the Federal Trade Commission will join Connolly on a panel at the forum. Congressman Connolly’s issues forum will run from 3 pm to 5 pm on Thursday, September 5, in Westminster’s Potomac Room at 12191 Clipper Drive in Woodbridge.

Defense Agency Leaving Prince William

MANASSAS, Va. — The Department of Defense is trading Prince William for Fairfax County, and will move 300 jobs from the Manassas area to Chantilly.

The Defense Contract Management Agency will close its office on Battleview Parkway in the Blue Ridge Office Park near the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College and will move all of their employees into a new office at 14501 George Carter Way in Chantilly. The new facility is about 10 miles from the office on Battleview Parkway, which has been open since 1993.

Dumfries Mulls Discount Card

That’s what Dumfries officials want to know, and they’ve asked the town’s business association to solicit feedback from business owners to see if they would like to be listed on such a card that could be used at merchants in the small town.
