Meg Ryan has chosen Virginia to make a  film that will tell a coming-of-age  story set in World War II.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the film, “Ithaca,” which is based on the 1943 novel “The Human Comedy” that chronicles the challenges of growing up during wartime, will be shot in the state. The film will star Sam Shepard and Ryan’s son, Jack Quaid. Ryan will also direct and play role in the film.

Both law enforcement officers were called to a barricade situation last year in Spotsylvania County where an armed man barricaded himself in his home. One Stafford sheriff’s deputy was shot and later recovered. Department officials declined to tell Potomac Local News the name of the deputy who was shot.

Jacobs and Robey were honored along with 43 others at a recent department award ceremony in Stafford County.

They’ll hold the title for the next two years, and they were selected for a group of 14 writers who were all vying for the distinction.

“According to the 11-member selection panel, both candidates simply blew them away with their individual creative strengths. For Dr. Scott, it was the project he proposed: using a website, a series of community seminars and a great deal of pavement pounding, Dr. Scott plans to encourage budding and seasoned Prince William poets to submit poems for inclusion into a permanent “10,000 poem exhibit,” a press release stated.

MANASSAS PARK, Va. —  It hasn’t gone to the dogs yet, but Manassas Park has made it into the finals in a competition to receive a newly constructed dog park.

The city located inside Prince William County is a participant in the “Bark for Your Park” contest where $100,000 is up for grabs for construction of a new park. PetSafe is sponsoring the contest, and that’s where you can go vote to help the city win.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — When he started breaking things and taking off his clothes, police said that’s when the 911 caller picked up the phone.

A man was taken into custody about 6:15 a.m. Sunday outside a home on Mountain View Road in Stafford County. The suspect came to the house and began yelling frantically at those inside.
