Lorton, Va. –– A woman told police a man tried to steal her purse, and now investigators have asked Lorton residents to keep an eye out for the would-be thief.

The victim was walking to her home in the 9400 block of Cherwek Drive, just off U.S. 1, at 8:50 p.m. Sept. 15, when a man approached her and grabbed her purse, said Fairfax police Franconia District spokesman Richard Henry on Thursday.


The shooting victims from Saturday morning’s murder-suicide in Montclair have been identified as 42-year-old Robert Bates from Nokesville, and 38-year-old Jennifer Bates, according to the Associated Press.

The two were killed this morning after they stepped out of the SUV they were riding in, on Widewater Drive, had an argument and Robert Bates shot Jennifer Bates in the upper body, according to police.

The attempted robberies date back to July 18, when two different victims were told to meet the suspects at a predetermined location in Stafford to pay for an iPhone and Playstation 3 the victims thought they had purchased on the popular trade services Web site, Craigslist, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. The victims told investigators that a man and woman broke into the their home in the 900 block of Anvil Road in south Stafford, near Interstate 95 and U.S. 17, at 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Once inside, the man pointed a handgun at the residents, ordered them from the middle floor of the home to the basement then to lie on the floor, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. (more…)


Immigration officials say they will now release information about all illegal aliens who have been arrested in Prince William County.

Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials told Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey A. Stewart they will now release identities and final disposition of every convicted illegal immigrant who was turned over to ICE, according to insidenova.com.


A Woodbridge man who admitted downloading and distributing child pornography pleaded guilty Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors say Dennis Craig Bell, 55, was a U.S. Capitol Police officer when on Dec. 14, 2009 he used a peer-to-peer internet connection to share pornographic images depicting children. (more…)

Stafford County, Va. – One man faces murder charges in the death of a Stafford County antique store owner.

Stafford County detectives traveled to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center in Winchester on Tuesday night and served an arrest warrant for 63-year-old Julian Lee “Buzz” Burke, who was already in jail on a first-degree murder charge from an incident that took place in Fauquier County in November 2009, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
