LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Two storm water management ponds have floated to the top of the list of needed storm water improvements along the Occoquan River.

Prince William County officials walked six miles and looked at 20 streams in the Occoquan River watershed, which includes streams and creeks that collect rainfall in areas like Brenstville and Independent Hill and points south of Manassas, where it then flows toward the Town of Occoquan and Lake Ridge.

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — A town house in Lake Ridge burned Sunday morning.

The fire broke out at 3511 Covered Bridge Lane off Smoketown Road at 10:06 a.m. Fire crews found smoke to be showing from the roof as they arrived onto the scene. After fire crews entered the house, they found flames engulfing the second floor and attic section of house, according to a OWL Volunteer Fire Department spokeswoman.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Five people now face charges in a string of burglaries in Lake Ridge.

Detectives with the Prince William County Police Department began investigating the burglaries when they began on Feb. 7. After another three burglaries were reported Feb. 10, one in near Quantico and the other in Woodbridge, detectives were able to link all of the burglaries together, according to police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Work will soon begin on a new sidewalk that will provide students a safer route to school.

At total of $252,400 will be spent on the installation of the new sidewalk along Antietam Road, from Old Bridge Road to Woodfern Court, in Lake Ridge. Part of the Safe Routes to School program, the new sidewalk will be used by students at Antietam Elementary School.
