WOODBRIDGE, Va. — If you want to get your point across in any argument, take a cue from skilled debaters at Potomac High School. Two Potomac students have honed their research and speaking skills, composure, and competitive drive sufficiently to best the best at local, regional, state, and Collegiate National Invitationals.

It is no small feat to master the art of debate. Our country’s history is filled with stories of great debaters as far back as Colonial times; and students of ancient history and philosophy likely know well the works of great orators. Perhaps we will find the young standouts someday taking on a leadership role in the great debates about our nation.


STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — At the end of a three-hour ordeal in Stafford County on Friday, detectives found a backpack filled with drugs on an island in the Rappahannock River.

A Stafford sheriff’s deputy stopped a truck in the area of U.S. 1 at the Falmouth Bridge, a span that connects Fredericksburg and Stafford County over the Rappahannock, about 9:35 a.m. Friday. Authorities said the driver had defective equipment on his car and a license plate displayed in the front window.


Virginia American Water today announced the start of the latest water main replacement project in Dale City to enhance water quality and improve service reliability. The cost of the water system improvements is approximately $202,000.

Beginning the week of May 7, Virginia American Water will replace approximately 1,100 feet of aging six-inch pipe on Dyer Drive in the Darbydale community of Dale City. The company is replacing pipe that has a history of leaks with new double-cement-lined pipe


DALE CITY, Va. – Volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel in Dale City have been honored as some of the best in the state, and have been recognized by the governor.

Two members of the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, Lt. Christopher Gardner and EMS Sgt. Danielle Miller, were recognized at a recent Installation of Officers ceremony at VFW Post 1503 in Dale City.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Behind a strong start from Matt Grace, the Potomac Nationals defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks 3-1 on Sunday at Pfitzner Stadium. Potomac reclaimed second place from Wilmington in the Northern Division from Wilmington with the win.

Wilmington fireballer Yordano Ventura got the start and was touching the high 90s throughout his outing. Kevin Keyes opened the scoring by hitting a fastball off the batters eye in dead center field to lead off the third inning to give Potomac a 1-0 lead. It was the fifth homer of the season for Keyes.


The Super Moon made its appearance over the Potomac Communities on Saturday night despite persistent clouds that hung out after a round of showers and thunderstorms moved through earlier in the day.

The moon, which is the same moon that appears every other night, appeared 30 percent brighter and 14 percent bigger on Saturday night.
