WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Potomac Nationals are pleased to announce that Tim Swartz has been named as the new radio broadcaster and Director of Media Relations for the 2012 season. Swartz, who spent the 2010 season as the number two broadcaster, returns to Pfitzner Stadium to call the action as the Nationals seek their fourth playoff bid in five years.

“We are really happy that we could bring Tim on as our broadcaster,” said Potomac General Manager Josh Olerud. “His experience with our organization, polish on the air and knowledge of baseball all made him a great fit for the ballclub.”

$5 Million in Cuts to Fund Teacher Pay Increases

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The Prince William County School Board approved an $861 million operating budget Wednesday night, directing the Superintendent to find $5 million in new spending cuts to cover the cost of providing a step increase to employees on the current pay scale.

Budget approval came a week later than originally expected, as Board Members debated how best to afford enhanced pay increases. The new plan builds on the foundation of the spending reductions originally proposed to pay for an across-the-board raise in the budget plan rejected during last week’s Board mark-up session.

Homeowners Encouraged to Plant to Fight Runoff

Everyone has heard the old adage, “April showers bring May flowers.” The Plant More Plants campaign encourages homeowners to prepare for those spring showers while having fun, improving their yards and reducing polluted runoff.

Now in its second year, Plant More Plants encourages homeowners to “plant more plants” as a way to mitigate stormwater runoff and erosion and ultimately improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay. The campaign is led by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, with a number of other Chesapeake Bay Program partners in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

35 Recognized for Seat Belt Safety

STAFFORD, Va. — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office recently held their annual Saved by the Belt Award Ceremony honoring 35 citizens. These citizens were all in motor vehicle accidents this year, where they were not charged, but remained injury free due to the wearing of seatbelts.

Under the direction of Deputy Bill Crane a ceremony was held honoring these citizens and their families, for their efforts that saved personal injury and, in a few cases, saved lives.
