While most folks are generally worried about the weather this time of year, the real storm usually occurs in the McCoart Administration Building. I’m referring to the annual budget process for Prince William County. This is the battle of wills between the fiscal conservatives, the liberal right, and the center-leaning members of the county’s Board of Supervisors over just how little or much of our money they plan to take to run Prince William County during Fiscal Year 2014 starting July 1.

Artist Rayhart at the Center for the Arts

MANASSAS, Va. — The Center for the Arts, Caton Merchant Family Gallery will exhibit the works of regional artist Rayhart, February 6 through March 16. A closing meet-the-artist reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.

Ray Hart, the artist who became “Rayhart”, says painting for him is “nothing short of the abandonment of reality.” He began painting professionally in 1997, nurturing his calling as an artist and poet, with college basketball scholarship days and a sociology degree becoming history in his now wizened journey.

Police Activity Slows Traffic on I-95 at Prince William Parkway

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Police activity is slowing traffic along Interstate 95 in Woodbridge at milepost 158, at Prince William Parkway.

Police say they received a call about a man who ran across the northbound side of the highway and then into a nearby wooded area, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. There is no crash and no injuries have been reported, she added.

VRE Extends Parking Lease at Rippon Station

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — What’s the going rate to rent a parking space these days? At Virginia’s Railway Express’ Rippon station, it’s $42.10 per space.

The commuter railroad today extended a contract to keep 320 spaces at the popular commuter station for another three years, at a cost of $162,000. The additional spaces are located on land owned by the Kettler land development firm and are a temporary solution help to ease overcrowding at the station and are necessary until a permanent parking garage is built, states information provided by VRE.

Report: 911 Outages Caused by Verizon’s Failure to Upkeep Facilities

Outages to 911 service in our area following this past summer’s June 29 derecho storm were avoidable, states a new report fro the Virginia State Corporation Commission. The report goes on to suggest what Verizon must do to prevent such outages in the future.
