The time it takes for rain to change over to snow will determine how much accumulation, if any, we will see from the low pressure system to move through our area tonight and into Monday morning.

A winter storm watch is issued for Loudoun County, but no warnings are in effect for Prince William. But we still could see some flakes, according to the weather service.

News

As I look ahead to our fourth year of covering Virginia’s Potomac Communities in Prince William, Stafford, and Manassas, you told us you wanted more local news for your neighborhood, delivered on an easy-to-read website that’s focused on where you live.

We heard you, and that’s why, today, I’d like to introduce you to our newest news sites – StaffordLocal.com and ManassasLocal.com. As you might guess, both sites will focus on the communities of their namesake, telling stories that are important to you, as well as showcasing community events and people.

One of the first rules of writing is to write about what you know. I confess, I do not follow that rule very often. If I did, I probably would have exhausted my writing skills three years ago, when I first began writing for Potomac Local. I tend to write more about what I feel and then attempt to add some factual, useful content and some helpful links so by the end of a column I know more than when I began. I hope it works that way for you when you read it, too.

Sometimes the “knowing” and the “feeling” are not compatible. Monday morning, I am going to Sentara hospital for a hip replacement. Almost everyone knows what that is, but I suspect not many of us actually know how that is done unless you are one of the 285,000 patients per year who undergo this surgery.

News

Snow is back in the forecast is back for us tonight. While Stafford County is not currently under a winter storm watch, nearby Loudoun County and counties in Maryland are under a winter storm  watch, with a projection of more than five inches of snow to begin tonight.

There is a possibility for wintry conditions in Stafford, with a mixture of rain and snow, although little snow accumulation is expected.
