The Dumfries Town Council on Tuesday struck down a motion to pass a resolution demanding the  Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to require Dominion to haul away toxic coal ash from Possum Point Power Station on the Potomac River.

The utility is in the process of consolidating water and toxic coal ash – a by-product produced when the power plant burned coal from 1947 to 2003 before it converted to gas — from four coal ash ponds into one lined pond.


From Prince William police: 

Sexual Assault Investigation – On June 22 at 1:33AM, officers responded to investigate a sexual assault which was reported to have occurred at an apartment located in the 18100 block of Kilmer Ln in Triangle (22172) on June 20 around midday. The investigation revealed that the victim, a 20 year old woman of Triangle, was sleeping inside her residence when she was sexually assaulted by an unknown man. The suspect is believed to have entered the victim’s residence through an unsecured door. After the assault, the suspect left the apartment. The victim reported the incident to a family member the next day and police were contacted. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The investigation continues.
