Charles P. “Chuck” Wilson, Colonel, USAF, Ret., was elected as Chairman of the Potomac Region Veterans Council. Wilson, also the Commander and executive Director of VFW Post 7916 in Occoquan, is a Aerospace Business Consultant with the Goyak Group, and a business executive who has been with L-3 Communications, and the Raytheon Company. Wilson completed a distinguished Air Force career that includes three Command tours (chief executive) at multiple Command levels, served in key positions within the Office of the Secretary of Defense, The Joint Staff, and the US Department of State. Additionally, he was a U-2 pilot, U-2 instructor pilot, Director of U-2 operations, and Commander that piloted highly sensitive missions worldwide.

The Potomac Region Veterans Council (PRVC) was formed in June 1972 to coordinate and promote the common good of veterans of the Northern Virginia area and to honor our fallen comrades on Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day. The Council today represents over 15,000 veterans in 29 different veterans’ organizations.

From Prince William Service Authority: 

a water main break on a 12-inch water main along Possum Point Road. There will be approximately 45 customers on Possum Point Road without water, which includes the Dominion Power Plant, as the Service Authority inspects and makes the necessary repairs to the main.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The top cop in the Prince William County Department’s Criminal Investigations Division will be promoted to serve underneath Cheif of Police Col. Barry Barnard. 

Maj. Steven J. Thompson is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He’s been with the department since 1996 after working in New York City. 


Politics

The office of Virginia State Delegate Richard L. Anderson (R-51) has announced that the Prince William County legislator will again host his popular and competitive annual “51st House District Future Delegate Program” at the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond during the months of January and February 2017.

The program is open to public, private, and home-schooled students from grades 7 through 12. The 51st House District stretches from Occoquan Town westward through Lake Ridge, the county portions of Manassas, and into Brentsville and Nokesville.

Civics students at Beville Middle School, nearly 360 in all, will get a real sense of our democracy when they head to “voting booths” in their school next Thursday, November 3. The eighth-graders are studying a unit on the Executive Branch, including the Electoral College, political parties, the role of media in elections, and citizenship in a democracy. The League of Women Voters is helping to run the mock election. Students will vote using paper ballots which will resemble the actual Virginia ballot.

From Prince William police: 

Sexual Assault Investigation – On October 25, detectives from the Special Victim’s Unit began an investigation into a sexual assault which was reported to have occurred at a home in Manassas (20111). The investigation revealed that the victim, a 9-year-old girl, was sexually assaulted on more than one occasion over the last two years by a family member. The incidents were recently disclosed and police were contacted. Following the investigation, detectives obtained warrants for the arrest of the accused, identified as Luis Antonio PEREZ. Attempted to locate the accused have been unsuccessful.
