The Lake Mooney Reservoir, the most expensive public works project in Stafford County's history will soon be open for fishing.

From a press release:

Stafford County and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries proudly announce that Lake Mooney will be open for fishing on Saturday, July 1, 2017. The lake, named for the late Stafford Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jason Mooney, opened to visitors in June 2016. It is also the 5.54 billion gallon reservoir for Stafford County.

Today, Bart Randall formally announced he would seek election to the Garrisonville District seat on the Stafford County School Board. After having filed the proper paperwork and qualified for the ballot, Randall is turning his focus toward the campaign. 

"We must focus on the success, safety, and security of our children and preparing them for a bright future. This includes keeping class sizes low, supporting our teachers, and ensuring our children have the resources to learn.”

Bart Randall and his wife Carolyn live in the Hampton Oaks neighborhood of Stafford and recently celebrated their 30th anniversary.  They have two adult children, including one who graduated from North Stafford High School. Randall retired from a 24-year Navy career in 2009, ending his tenure as a Master Chief with over ten years serving at sea. During his time in the Navy, Randall earned an Associate of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and two Master of Arts degrees in Human Resources Development and Human Resources Management. Randall has been involved in the Stafford Community volunteering as a baseball coach, in Boy Scouts, and at his church.

From Prince William police: 

Fatal Crash Investigation – On June 24 at 10:42AM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Prince William Pkwy and Scenic Point Pl  in Manassas (20112) to investigate a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. The investigation revealed that the operator of a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, identified as a 19-year-old man of Woodbridge, was traveling eastbound on the Prince William Pkwy near Scenic Point Pl at an excessive speed when the operator lost control and struck a guard rail. The motorcycle operator was pronounced dead at the scene. It is still unknown if drug and alcohol use are factors in this crash. The investigation continues.

A new $4 million walkway will bridge a trail gap over the Neabsco Creek.

The Prince William County Board of Supervisors awarded the funds to construct a new boardwalk to become part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, which runs from the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania to the Chesapeake Bay. Thirty-eight miles of the trail run in Prince William County, and while the trail is a National Park Service project, it's up to the localities in which the trail runs to fund its construction, according to county documents.

About nine miles of the Prince William County portion of the trail is completed, mostly in the southern portion of the county.

Shirley Shu-Mei Tang

Shirley Shu-mei Tang passed away peacefully in her home in Bristow, Virginia on June 21st at the age of 77. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ting-wei; son Steven and wife Joanne of Haymarket, VA; daughter Patricia and husband Lamine of Watertown, MA; and four grandchildren, Rachael, Heather, Nathan and Marie.
Shirley was born in Yangmei, Taiwan on September 19th, 1939. She was the sixth child of the late Dr. Ah-yeh Huang and Yuanmei Chang. Shirley attended the First Girl’s High School in Taipei and graduated from National Taiwan University with a B. S. in Chemistry. After migrating to the United States she married her husband Ting-wei Tang in 1963 obtaining a Masters in Organic Chemistry in 1966 and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Connecticut in 1971. A longtime resident of Amherst, Massachusetts, Shirley taught at Mount Holyoke College, and later worked as a Research Associate at UMass Amherst. She then served as an Academic Advisor at the United Asia Learning Resource Center, where she took great pleasure in working with and providing support for minority students.
Shirley was an accomplished pianist, and loved to listen to classical music. She appreciated art and gardening, and enjoyed cooking and entertaining guests.
Shirley fought a challenging battle with Parkinson’s disease during her 16-year diagnosis and made the most of every opportunity to be with her family. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Harry Stevens, Jr.

Harry Lee Stevens, Jr., 49, of Gainesville, passed away unexpectedly June 25, 2017.

Born July 14, 1967 in Goodrich, MI, he was the son of the late Pamela Price Stevens and Harry Lee Stevens, Sr. On January 3, 1987 in Davison, MI, he married the former Dana Rae Winnick, who survives.

Harry served in the United States Army for over 20 years as an engineer, communications specialist, Army recruiter and an Army IG. He worked as a Civilian Inspector General for the Department of Defense, and was a member of both the Regulators Bike Club and the War Fighters Motorcycle Club – George Washington Chapter.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dana Rae Stevens of Gainesville; one daughter, Rhiann Amaya Stevens also of Gainesville; one son, Kyle McKenzie Stevens and his wife LaBrea of Fort Bragg, NC; his father, Harry Stevens, Sr. of Greenbush, MI; two brothers, Eric Helms and his wife Marilyn of TX; Dave Burton of Burton, MI; his mother-in-law, Shirley Ann Winnick also of Burton, MI; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A celebration of Harry’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Richard Losa officiating.

Interment with military honors will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Harry’s name to ACTS, P.O. Box 74 Dumfries, VA 22026.
