Democrat Jennifer Carroll Foy rang the bell of the area press corps on Thursday when her campaign sent out a press release notifying us her Republican opponent Mike Makee will not attend a series of candidate forums.

Both Carroll Foy and Makee are running for the House District 2 seat in eastern Prince William County, and northern Stafford County.

Kay Frances Swanson, age 68, of Manassas, VA, went to be with her Lord on October 4, 2017. Beloved wife of Tilman R. Swanson. Loving mother of Jennifer Ragan (Mike), and Timothy Swanson (Lorren). Cherished grandmother of Matthew Ragan. Dear sister of Rose Bonner, Roger Miller (Ginger), and Paul Miller (Linda). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; Homer and Grethel (Adkins) Miller, as well as two sisters and 3 brothers.

Kay loved her family; especially her grandson. Christmas time in her home was very special and an elegant time. Entertaining was also an important facet of her life. She loved her garden and the outdoors. In quiet times, Kay enjoyed to read.

Starting Nov. 1, military veterans who find themselves on the wrong side of the law will have their cases eligible for a special hearing on a new court docket.

The “veterans docket” will deal with veterans issues, and many of the cases it will hear are people wrangling with substance abuse and mental health issues. Many times these can lead to theft and veterans being charged with larceny.
