MANASSAS PARK — The somber message from everyone involved with the drug epidemic resonated clearly: Opioid addiction continues to be a growing problem in the Prince William County area that cuts across all demographic distinctions, costing lives and wreaking havoc in its wake.
More than 80 people gathered Nov. 17 at the Manassas Park Community Center to assess the scope of the current opioid crisis as well as ways to combat it. They heard from law enforcement officers, health care professionals, elected officials and people whose lives have been devastated by opioid drugs.
WOODBRIDGE — (Press Release) Death Investigation *UPDATE – On November 17, an autopsy was conducted on the man discovered deceased in a pond near the area of Pond Way and Park Lake Rd in Woodbridge last week.
Preliminarily, based on the autopsy, there were no indications of foul play. The death appears to be non-criminal in nature. A final determination regarding the death will be made by the Medical Examiner’s Office pending toxicology results.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Glendel “Glen” Hill is seeking a fifth term as Prince William County Sheriff.
Hill announced his re-election bid this week, noting he wants to continue “to build upon the accomplishments his office has achieved over the last 15 years.”
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — The Virginia Department of Transportation is building new commuter lots as part of the Interstate 66 toll lanes project.
The first new lot is being built near the intersections of I-66 and Route 15 in Gainesville, will have 200 available spaces and is scheduled to open in early 2019.
In the wake of Amazon’s announcement to build its second headquarters (dubbed HQ2) in Arlington’s Crystal City neighborhood, real estate prices are projected to soar and officials are mixed on how to ensure affordable housing for Northern Virginia residents.
Finding housing in a rapidly growing community has been a concern in the area for years. A recent survey conducted by Suburban Virginia Republican Coalition (SUV GOP) found that suburban residents in the area named affordable housing as one of their four key issues, in addition to commuter transportation, property taxes, and education.
DALE CITY — (Press Release) Fatal Crash Investigation – On November 18 at 2:56 a.m., investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Dale Blvd and Neabsco Mills Rd in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a crash.
The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2011 Mini Cooper S was traveling eastbound on Dale Blvd approaching Neabsco Mills Rd. A 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer was illegally parked on the right shoulder of Dale Blvd without parking lights or roadside hazard lights operational.
DALE CITY — (Press Release) Murder Investigation – On November 18 at 1:55AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 15300 block of Bronco Way in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a shooting.
The investigation revealed that the victim and the accused were inside a residence in the above area when they became involved in a verbal altercation.
