QUANTICO — The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation’s Summer Concert Series ends with a bang this Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. with a performance by the Quantico Marine Corps Band.
The Quantico Marine Corps Band, one of the oldest professional musical ensembles in the Marine Corps, has entertained in events from the Super Bowl to Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.
It might be the only place in the region aiming to reduce the number of lanes on a street.
Under a plan to remake South Grant Avenue, the street will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes, with right and left-turn lanes in certain sections between Lee Avenue and Wellington Road. If built, the new conditions would match what already exists on North Grant Avenue, between Lee Avenue and Sudley Road.

Anne Celestine Jasper, age 76, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2019.
She was born on November 2, 1942, to the late Joseph and Agnes Overend.
Antoinette Abbott, age 73, of Clifton, Virginia passed away Monday, August 26, 2019.
She was born on December 29, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Anthony and Calliope (Fillow) Evangelu. She married the love her life, the late Richard Abbott, in 1966, and they enjoyed 51 years together. She was a fantastic cook famous for her Greek specialities. She loved antiquing, traveling and spending time with family.
There will be something sweet coming to our area in the effort to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in Virginia.
Free ice cream will be distributed as part of the #ISceamForEquality ice cream tour, where an ice cream truck will be traveling across Virginia between now and Election Day, November 5.
