Thanks to an enterprising group of students and a Manassas based non-profit “Hire Ground,” Osbourn High School in Manassas has a closet full of professional clothing that students can wear for job interviews, speeches, or trips to visit colleges.

FREDERICKSBURG — Officials will reignite talks of an outer connector road, a bypass that would help alleviate congestion on Interstate 95 in Fredericksburg region.

There are several options for an outer connector, with some plans starting the road at I-95 at Massaponnax and taking it west through Spotsylvania County, crossing the Rappahannock River into Stafford County, and then reconnecting to I-95 at Stafford’s Centreport Parkway, near the county’s regional airport.

MANASSAS — At 4:25 p.m. on June 8, officers of the Manassas City Police Department responded to the area of Grant Avenue and Byrd Drive for a report of a hit and run.

The victim told police he was crossing Byrd Drive on his bicycle when he was struck by a car which did not stop afterward to see if he was okay.

DALE CITY — (Press Release) On Friday, June 7th, 2019 seven Birmingham Green team members and four residents presented a donation of $500 worth of toys and supplies to The Arc of Greater Prince William’s Muriel Humphrey Childcare Center in Dale City.

In May, Birmingham Green team members and residents participated in Comcast Cares Day. They joined Comcast, Leadership Prince William, and the ARC of Greater Prince William for one of the largest days of volunteerism in Northern Virginia. Over 300 volunteers from the area participated to help the special needs children, adults, and families the ARC of Greater Prince William serves.

STAFFORD COUNTY — A total of 223 planned townhouses is what did in a rezoning request on Route 17.

The Stafford County Planning Commission on May 29 voted to deny rezoning 163 acres of land across from a Walmart on Route 17 in the Hartwood section of Stafford County, and next to the Cardinal Forest subdivision. The request will now move on to the Board of Supervisors where a final decision will be made.


Obituaries

David "Dave" R. Fowler, 80, of Woodbridge, Virginia died June 10, 2019 at home. He retired a CW4 with the Army National Guard. Fowler was a member of the River of Life Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by Albert and Thelma Fowler and Sharon Hughes. He is survived by Debbie Fowler, Cindy Short, David Fowler Jr., Tammy Sparks, Nikki Walker, Angel Johnson, eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors Friday, June 14, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
