PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — The proposed Prince William County budget would significantly increase spending for the Office of Elections by nearly $800,000, targeting issues that led to voter complaints in 2018 just in time for the 2020 presidential primary.
County Executive Christopher Martino presented his budget proposal for fiscal year 2020 to the Board of County Supervisors, telling board members the increased funding includes about $300,000 for the March 2020 presidential primary plus another $400,000 for Election Day equipment.

CULPEPER — (Press Release) The Virginia Department of Transportation will make a major safety improvement to northbound Route 29 in northern Fauquier County this summer by removing a series of hills that have contributed to significant crashes on that busy section of highway.
The project will require closing the northbound lanes of Route 29 between July 8 and Aug. 2 from just north of the entrance to Battlefield Baptist Church to just south of the Route 29/215 intersection, a distance of about one-half mile. During that time, northbound traffic will detour using Route 17 north from Warrenton to Interstate 66 at Marshall.

RICHMOND — Virginians have low approval ratings of Gov. Ralph Northam and Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, but most people say no one should resign or be impeached, according to a recent poll by the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.
The poll found that of the state’s three top officials, Attorney General Mark Herring is the best-positioned to remain in office.
RICHMOND — Beginning in fall of 2020, Virginia will have more than Election Day. It will be more like Election Week.
Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, to cast ballots for president and other political offices. But for the first time, Virginians will be able to vote early that year — from Oct. 24 through Oct. 31 — without needing to provide an excuse.
