STAFFORD COUNTY — Stafford County school bus drivers gathered at Colonial Forge High School on July 25 for a day-long safety training course.
County Sheriff David Decatur and his deputies provided training to more than 300 drivers, teaching them how to protect themselves if an adult forced their way onto a school bus filled with children. They trained for what to do if a child brought a gun unto a bus inside of a backpack.

Bobette Lee Johnston, a long time resident of Woodbridge, Virginia passed away peacefully on August 15, 2019. She was born in Mississippi to the late Ellis and Liddie Lee. She was a materials specialist with the Department of Defense during her working years.Bobette was married to the late Lucian L. Johnston who was the love of her life. Her son’s Glen, Michael and Edward were so very important to her. Her grandchildren, Scott and Reina Hockenberry brought much joy into her life. She loved them all unconditionally. She enjoyed gardening and would spend hours working in her garden where she would grow sunflowers and tomatoes. She grew tomatoes so that she could make fried green tomatoes which she loved. A true southern lady, she did needle point and quilting.
There will be a visitation held at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road in Woodbridge, Virginia on Wednesday, August 21 starting at 4 PM and going until 6 PM. Her funeral service will take place at Riverview Baptist Church, 1722 Florida Ave. in Woodbridge, Virginia 22191 on Thursday at 11 am. Interment will take place at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia directly following the service.
Prince William County rescue crews helped federal and Maryland officials search for a missing Alexandria man in the Potomac River on Sunday.
The search for the 26-year-old man continues today.
WOODBRIDGE — A fire truck is out of service today after it caught fire.
Fire and rescue crews at the River Oaks Station — Fire Station 23 in Woodbridge smelled smoke inside one of the fire engines Sunday night. A small fire was located inside of the engine, so crews moved the engine outside of apparatus bay at the station and extinguished the fire.

Prince William County Food Rescue is a new effort underway in the region to pair caterers, restaurants, and grocery stores with food pantries to deliver more fresh produce and dairy items to those who need them most.
Anja M. Mayberry, a wonderful mother and grandmother passed peacefully on August 11, 2019. She was born on July 7, 1931 in Tampere, Finland to Eino and Imbi Soini. She went to work in Germany for the US Army and met her husband, Harry F. Mayberry Sr there. It was not long before she married Harry and they went on to have two sons. Harry Jr (Karen) was born on April 16, 1966 who was born at the Frankfort Army Hospital and Einor “Tony” (Rachel) was born on December 8, 1967 at the Wurtzburg Army Hospital.
After her husband tour in Germany the family moved to the United States living at Ft. Belvoir in Virginia. In 1982, after her husbands retirement she moved with her family to Springfield, Virginia. She lived at the same house up until her passing.
