During Rail Safety Week, taking place September 21-27, the Manassas City Police Department will be participating in “Operation Clear Track”.
Manassas City Police, along with numerous other law enforcement agencies around the country, has partnered with the Amtrak Police Department and Operation Lifesaver to help reduce the number of railroad crossing and trespassing incidents. These incidents seriously injure or kill more than 2,100 people in the U.S. and Canada each year.
Northern Virginia Community College is partnering with the City of Manassas, Prince William County, Virginia Career Works, and the SkillSource Group to ensure that community members affected by coronavirus are able to get back to work by receiving free education and workforce support services.
Manassas and Prince William County’s leadership forged this strategic partnership with a combined $1,900,000 in funding from the CARES Act to launch the ELEVATE program to provide free resources for those displaced workers. Additionally, this funding supports businesses in upskilling their workforce.
Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB) and Prince William County Solid Waste Division are holding a Fix-It Fair on October 17, 2020, from 10 am-4 pm at Connaughton Plaza, 1 County Complex Court, Woodbridge. This event will serve as Prince William Recycles Day.
Fix-It events provide members of the community the opportunity to bring salvageable items for repair and subsequent reuse. This type of service event has been very popular in other communities, and KPWB and the PWC Solid Waste Division want to bring this community service to Prince William County.

Hosted by the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, this event offers high school students an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about democracy, civic engagement, and the importance of understanding different perspectives.
Women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families and seek financial assistance to continue their education or receive training can now apply for the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award.
Recipients can use the “Live Your Dream” Award to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. This includes tuition, books, childcare, transportation or any other education-related expense.

Stafford County remains focused on providing support to businesses as they recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
As part of that continued support, the Stafford County Economic Development Authority has launched three small business assistance grants in August: Stay, Sleep, and Safe in Stafford. The authority is extending the application deadline with new eligibility revisions to broaden eligibility for businesses impacted by the coronavirus.

About 50 people who had hoped to speak to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors were turned away.
The county’s top elected officials held their meeting in a small conference room on Tuesday, September 15. The room was outside of the eight-member board’s regular meeting chambers, and due to coronavirus restrictions, seating inside the conference room was limited to less than 20 people.
