Traffic stop leads to arrest of Ohio fugitive

A driver who tried to provide false identification during a traffic stop in Stafford County yesterday ended up with numerous charges and jail without bond, according to the Stafford sheriff’s office.

On September 22 at 10:07 p.m., Deputy B.E. Vaughn saw a Dodge pickup turn from Staffordboro Boulevard onto Foxwood Drive and strike the stop sign. They deputed stopped the diver made contact with the driver and asked for identification. The driver explained he did not have his license but provided a name and date of birth.

Stafford upgrades sewer repair strategy to avoid road closures

This year, Stafford County will improve sewer infrastructure using a new technique, inversion lining, to avoid the usual destructive and lengthy road closures.

With over 500 miles of underground sewer pipes, these road closures are standard when it comes time to replace or repair aging sewer pipes.

Jail guards to call ICE when felony suspects released

Guards at Prince William County’s jail will tip off federal immigrations officials when suspected felony offenders are released.

The recent decision by the county’s jail board stipulates guards will call federal authorities for felony offenders who have been issued detainers by federal immigrations and customs officials, better known as ICE. Upon their release, federal authorities will have the option of coming to the jail and picking up the suspect.

NOVA plans mostly virtual classes for spring

Most Northern Virginia Community College students will not be returning to campus for the spring semester.

In a statement released by the school’s president, Anne M. Kress, it was announced that the college’s spring semester would be conducted mostly remotely due to the fact that the pandemic has “not appreciably changed.” This decision will also apply to most of the college’s instructors, who will remain in a temporary telework status until being able to return to campus.

The Prince William Chamber is strongly opposed to the Department of Labor and Industry’s COVID-19 regulations becoming permanent. In a time where some reports estimate that 20-25% of businesses will close forever, these regulations threaten to drive those numbers even higher.

Businesses, especially small businesses, are already struggling to survive these hard economic times and these regulations only increase the burden on them. The business community had no real input when they were originally drafted and developed and when they were put in place. The regulations were developed too quickly and are incredibly broad in scope.

Juan Yvonne Nelson

Juan Yvonne Nelson nee Bruno formerly of South Fork, PA died at the age of 96 of respiratory failure on September 20, 2020 at 5:05 AM at Aspen Hill Nursing Home in Lake Ridge, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred C. Nelson, her parents and many siblings. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Alphia Nelson of Montclair, VA, her niece Pastor Dora Carter of Prescott AZ, great nephew Jason Carter of Pinetop AZ and nephew David Harris of Wirtz, VA.

Juaneivieve loved to dance, listen to music and go to concerts. She enjoyed her trips to various National Parks across the US. She enjoyed going to Virginia wineries. She worked during World War II at Bulova Watch Co. in New York City making parts for the war effort. She worked as a library assistant at Forest Hills High School in PA. She lived with her daughter in Montclair VA from 1985 to 2019. She spent the last year of her life at Aspen Hills receiving excellent care.

A new small-batch bakery has opened in the in a fast-growing industrial corridor of Prince William County.

Bakefully Yours is a bakery with a health-conscious mission: to supply gluten-free, vegan and paleo desserts, in hopes of providing sweets for everyone, no matter what dietary restrictions one may have, according to a press release from the Prince William County Department of Economic Development. The bakery has has been supplying the Washington, D.C. region with its healthy treats for the past four years and now serves 100 stores in the mid-Atlantic region.

OmniRide service to be recognized by TSA

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will honor OmniRide with the BASE Gold Standard Award at a ceremony taking place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 25 at the OmniRide Transit Center .

The award is the top recognition TSA can give to a transit agency for demonstrating outstanding performance in enhancing their security programs. OmniRide is the first and only bus-only transit system in the National Capital Region to earn this recognition.
