A man who has helped build many foundations and member of many clubs has passed away, yet he is remembered by friends and family today.

Mr. Richard Arlen “Dick” Beamer, husband of Elizabeth “Libba” Hawks Beamer, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Monday, June 22, 2020, at Chapel Hill in North Carolina. Dick was born July 23, 1931, at Mt. Airy, North Carolina, and was the last surviving of seven children born to the late Dorsey Cullen Beamer and Martha Victoria Monday Beamer.

More than 400 people came to Nelson Park to show their support for area law enforcement.

The park is about four miles from the scene of a riot that took place on May 30, following the death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd, who died at the hands of a former police officer during an arrest attempt.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office warns public of a scam after man gathers money to help, what he believed to be, his granddaughter in trouble and gives money to a courier.

A report on this scam occurred on Thursday, June 25, at 2:23 p.m., when a deputy was called to a home in Grafton Village for a complaint of fraud, according to a press release from Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, Layug was told that the resident had received a phone call from a woman claiming to be his granddaughter, according to police.

A federal judge in Virginia awarded $2 million in attorney fees against court clerks in Prince William County and the City of Norfolk Wednesday over a First Amendment action filed by Courthouse News, a nationwide news service for lawyers.

Students in Stafford County are getting an extra week of summer vacation as the start of the school year has been pushed back for additional teacher training.

At their June 23 meeting, the Stafford County School Board approved an updated school calendar that both delays the start of the school year by one week and adds two additional days onto the academic year. These changes have caused the school year to now begin on Aug. 17 and end on May 28.
