A man wanted for maliciously stabbing a woman before fleeing the scene was caught within the same day the crime happened.

According to a Manassas City Police Department press release, the event occurred on July 14, at 6:48 a.m. when officers arrived to investigate a report of a stabbing. Police stated that when they arrived at 10200 Block of Cedar Ridge Drive, they found a woman injured from a stab wound.


Prince William

One man is dead and another in a local hospital after reports of a shooting in Lake Ridge.

The crime happened on Tuesday, July 14, at 10:15 p.m., when officers responded to Valleywood Drive and Colebrook Lane in Lake Ridge to investigate reports of gunfire. According to a Prince William County Police Department press release, one man was located nearby on Oakwood Drive suffering from a gunshot wound.

Two unrelated Stafford women won the top prizes for two different lottery games and both plan on spending it on a new house.

 Anya Dennis received a phone call from her husband excitingly telling her that they matched all five numbers for the Cash 5 Lottery Game. According to a Virginia Lottery press release, the couple had bought 12 tickets for an upcoming June 14 drawing with all the same numbers.


Obituaries

Debra Uthus Yared, of Woodbridge VA, died peacefully at home on July 10, 2020 surrounded by family. She battled breast cancer for 12 years with courage and strength.

She was born on August 21, 1962 at the US Army Hospital in Tehran, Iran to Ronald Owen Uthus and Joyce Coleman Mearse.


Schools

Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) students will not be returning to school in-person this fall.

During its July 14 meeting, the city’s school board approved in a 4-3 vote to conduct school virtually with an ‘evaluation of all options once a month.’


Prince William

The Prince William County Police Department is holding their 37th National Night Out to bring the community and police department together.

According to a press release from the police department, this event will take place on Tuesday, August 4, with social distancing being practiced. With the coronavirus still interfering in everyday life, police have stated that they will not let citizens into their vehicles compared to previous years.
