A Triangle resident is charged after police found a 9-year-old boy riding in the back of a car.

On October 25 at 3:19 p.m., officers were called to the area of Mine and Van Buren roads in Dumfries to investigate a report of child neglect. The caller told police that, while stopped at the intersection, they observed the trunk of the vehicle in front of them open and a juvenile inside.

Schools

All Prince William County students who choose the school division’s proposed “hybrid plan” could return to schools for in-person learning by the start of the third quarter, which begins Feb. 2, under a plan the school board approved early Thursday despite criticisms from some members who said it lacks a sense of urgency about getting students back in school.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, as clouds gave way to a rainbow-filled sky, community members and local and state officials unveiled a long-planned statue of Jennie Dean. This statue is the centerpiece of the Manassas Industrial School and Jennie Dean Memorial Update, located at 9601 Wellington Road.

The Memorial pays tribute to Jennie Dean who, despite being born into slavery in 1848 and without the benefit of a formal education, changed the lives of countless African Americans in Manassas, Prince William County, and the region when she established the Manassas Industrial School for Colored Youth in 1893.
