Stafford County will spend $7,400 at locally-owned restaurants to purchase gift cards for families in need.

The county launched its first-ever Stafford Cares program, which will benefit 3,500 families in the county and small businesses directly impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stafford’s Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation honoring Black History Month to the County’s new Diversity Advisory Coalition. Every February, Stafford issues a proclamation honoring the contributions of African Americans to Stafford County. Typically, a person or organization accepts the African American community’s proclamation.

“Stafford’s African-American history is all our history. African-Americans have been integral to the establishment of Stafford County since 1664,” said Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Crystal Vanuch. “I am delighted to present the proclamation to our new Diversity Advisory Coalition. I look forward to their future accomplishments on behalf of the citizens of Stafford County.”

A winter storm watch is posted for our region as more snow and ice are in our forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday.

Before the winter weather arrives, temperatures will drop, which promoted the National Weather Service to post wind chill advisories from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The situation at the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department is in the gutter.

The county will spend $33,000 to address water leaking into the building from the gutters on the building, located at 305 Mooney Drive, near the Stafford County Public Safety Center on Courthouse Road, designed to whisk water away from the structure.


The investigation revealed that while driving north on I-95, the victim, a 33-year-old woman,and an acquaintance, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbalaltercation thatescalated physically.

At some point during the encounter, the accused pulled the vehicle over in the above location before grabbing the victim’s throat. Eventually the accused released the victim before driving her home. The victim initially contacted the police in another jurisdiction, who then transferred the case to Prince William County police.
