On Friday, May 21, 2021, Michael Francis Kirk Hammaker, beloved son, friend, brother, and nephew, passed away. He was 22 years old.

Michael was born on December 2, 1998 in Washington, DC to Catherine Jackman Hammaker and Michael Kirk Hammaker. As a proud student of the University of Virginia, he majored in History and Computer Science, but his hunger for learning, ever insatiable, led him to studies in philosophy, political science, Spanish, South Asian studies, business, economics and beyond.

Andy John Gaspard, 50, passed away on May 22, 2021 in Fairfax, Virginia, following a life defined by love, loyalty and devotion to his family, friends, and fraternity brothers. The youngest of the seven children of Andre and Marie-Antoinette Gaspard (of Petit-Goave, Haiti), Andy epitomizes the American dream.

Andy was born on February 5, 1971, in Nyack, New York, where he graduated from Nyack High School. There, he formed lifelong friendships, including those with members of his rap “crew,” the infamous (so he would say) BNC Posse.

Man, 22 killed in crash in Nokesville

Fatal Crash Investigation — On May 26 at 7:35 p.m., investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the 13300 block of Bristow Rd. in Nokesville (20181) to investigate a crash. The investigation revealed that the driver of 2005 Subaru WRX was traveling northbound on Bristow Rd. when the vehicle crossed over the center line and struck a 2013 Nissan Leaf traveling the opposite direction. The driver of the Subaru was extricated from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries sustained during the crash. The driver of the Nissan was also transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Speed is a factor in the crash. The driver of the Subaru was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The investigation continues.


Stafford County officials said the Vulcan Quarry is going to clean up its act.

Obituaries

Brian D. Fiebig, 25, of Dumfries died accidentally May 23, 2021 in Ocean City, MD. Brian was born April 24, 1996 in Virginia, to Bruce and Susan Fiebig. He is preceded in death by his mother Susan Fiebig.

He is survived by his father, Bruce Fiebig; his sister, Michelle Fiebig; brother, Daniel Fiebig; nephew, Robert Hastings; and grandfather, George P. Lewett.


Prince William

Just days before the unofficial start to summer, Prince William County announced it will open its government-run swimming pools this year after shuttering them last year due to the pandemic.

The county plans to reopen both of its waterparks, and at least four of its outdoor pools, located in the eastern section of the county.
