More layoffs in the local news industry are expected next week following the merger of Gannett and GateHouse Media.

Inevitably, as it has in every other newspaper company merger or closure, the amount of local news coverage in the affected communities will decrease.


Glen Hill clinched a fifth term as Prince William County’s sheriff, forcing a concession from his opponent.

On Election night Tuesday, Nov. 5, it had appeared Hill had lost the election to Josh King, a Democrat who won Prince William County by a half-point in the polls.


From providing social services, keeping cops on the streets, to making sure street lights stay on: The weight of these responsibilities and more will be on the shoulders of Ann Wheeler, who will take the helm of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors as its new Chairman At-large.

Wheeler expects a larger focus on finding additional funding for schools and working to reduce the number of students per classroom. Prince William County boasts the highest class sizes in the region.


The Charlie Boone Memorial Park will feature a memorial bike and skate park at the intersection of Old Bridge and Smoketown roads in Lake Ridge. 

The idea for the park was influenced by Charlie Boone, a Prince William County resident who died at age 22 in 2012. Boone enjoyed riding BMX bikes and skating, and found solace in the local BMX and skating community. 


The emergency service plan will affect afternoon commuters on December 5, who rely on OmniRide Express buses to take them home.

Express Buses will only pick up passengers at the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station, at a stop next at Greyhound Bus station.


The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce outlined its legislative agenda for the upcoming General Assembly session.

City leaders envision a large retailer to be the anchor of its long-talked-about City Center development.

 A joint public hearing held on November 6 was the first step in amending the city’s Comprehensive Plan, and officials hoping this clears the way to landing their dream store.
