Those left to cherish her memories are parents Nancy L. Cross and Clinton L. Cross; one son, Eric Reese Clatterbuck of Dale City, Virginia; one sister, Vivian L. Cross of San Antonio Texas; two brothers, Garland N. and Kelvin L. Cross of San Antonio Texas; several nieces, cousins, and nephews.


Evelyn Marie Ognowski, age 94, of Triangle, Virginia departed this life peacefully on July 6, 2017. Born on June 16, 1923 in Bailey’s Crossroads, VA, she is the beloved daughter of William Isaac and Annie Pearl Dean, sister of Charles William Dean, and wife for 9 years of Albert George Ognowski, all of whom have predeceased her. Evelyn worked for the National Geographic Society for 7 years, and the Department of the Air Force for over 33 years. She was the past President and Vice-President, and founding member of Bethel Historical Society, and a devout member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Woodbridge, VA since 1932. Evelyn was known for her loving kindness and generosity. She had such a big heart and there wasn’t a “stray” animal or person that she did not take in and make feel at home. Evelyn leaves behind a host of loving and devoted friends.

Marion Owen Sims Bunker, 78, passed peacefully into life everlasting on Saturday, June 24, 2017, following a short battle with cancer. Born February 19, 1939 in Richland, GA, Marion was the youngest daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Alfonso Radford Sims. She attended Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, NC, before entering Randolph Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, VA, where she became a member of Chi Omega. All along the way she attracted what became lifelong friendships.

While pursing her studies at Randolph Macon, she met a West Point cadet, Robert M. (Bob) Bunker. Although very different in personality, the two shared a strong Christian faith, adventurous and giving spirits, and a shared focus on the gifts of family and the sanctity of marriage. They married in 1959, a year after Bob’s graduation. She then completed her studies, earning a bachelor of arts in History.


Cynthia R. Smithson

Cynthia Rollins Smithson, 60, of Fredericksburg, Virginia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday July 4, 2017 at the Capital Caring hospice facility, The Adler Center in Aldie, Virginia. Cynthia was diagnosed with Stage IV Peritoneal Cancer in August 2014 and fought a courageous battle for nearly three years; beating the odds given to her at the initial diagnosis. She enjoyed working as an assistant to the innkeeper at the Richard Johnston Inn in Fredericksburg, VA where she loved cooking breakfast for the guests. Cynthia’s hobbies included cooking, decorating and making beautiful sea glass jewelry, which she often gave away as gifts to friends and family. She was dearly loved, helped and supported by a close circle of friends and her brother and sister-in-law throughout this difficult journey. She is survived by her children Brandon and Amanda Smithson of Fredericksburg, VA and her brother Tim Rollins and his wife Theresa of Nokesville, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Virginia Rollins of Nokesville, VA and her sister Carlene Shepherd of Nokesville, VA. In keeping with Cynthia’s wishes, there will be no services.
