The Manassas City Council voted unanimously on Monday, May 18 to close streets to help restaurant owners as they move into Phase 1 of the reopening of the City.

Gov. Ralph Northam today announced Manassas, along with surrounding jurisdictions to include Fairfax and Prince William counties, and Manassas Park, will enter the first phase of the governor’s reopening plan on Friday, May 29, following his stay-at-home order in March prompted by the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday night’s Manassas City Council meeting, Assistant Development Director Nicole Smith addressed elected leaders with an update on what the Economic Development Department is doing to help city businesses.

On May 29, Northern Virignia, to include Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, are poised to enter the first phase of a reopening plan laid out by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam that would allow restaurants to begin offering outside dining, operating at 50% capacity.


The Commonwealth Transportation Board has awarded a contract to begin construction on a project that will add northbound travel lanes to Interstate 95. The objective is to reduce driver delays in the Fredericksburg area between two of the busiest interchanges in the region.

The project contract was awarded to Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc., of York, Pa. Wagman was awarded $107.5 million to use for the project.


A driver pulled a gun on another driver in Dale City on Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred at 11 a.m. near the intersection of Route 234 and Minnieville Road. A 21-year-man was driving with a passenger inside of his car on Minneville Road when a Toyota Sequoia nearly collided with his vehicle,  according to a police press release.


Manassas Park received $1.5 million in CARES Act funding, and in their meeting on Tuesday, May 19, the governing body went over how they could spend that money.

The CARES Act is a federal program that gives money to states and localities to be used on coronavirus relief. When a locality receives these funds, there are strict guidelines on how the money can be used.
