Prince William appoints new student representatives to the school board

School may be out of session, but the fourth round of student representatives to the Prince William County School Board have been announced.

Rising seniors Ben Kim of Stonewall Jackson High School and Caroline Silvera of C.D. Hylton Senior High School have been chosen to serve as co-student representatives to the school board. Rising senior Ashley Menjivar of Woodbridge High School was additionally chosen as an alternate student representative. These three students were chosen out of a list of twenty-one finalists.

Tree falls onto home on Mountain View Road

A tree fell into a house in Stafford County this afternoon.

Fire and rescue crews were called to a home in the 2400 block of Mountain View Road at 2:07 p.m.

Stones at Government Island in Stafford County have been vandalized.

The Sheriff’s Office got reports of this incident on May 26 and are investigating, according to Major Shawn Kimmitz.

Fredericksburg drive-in movies canceled on opening day

The Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center has canceled their plans for a drive-in movie theater that was set to premiere today.

The drive-in was supposed to air movies from Thursday through Sunday, but all have been canceled for this weekend.

Prince William County’s next high school to be named ‘Gainesville High School’

After hundreds of suggestions and multiple school board meetings, a name has finally been chosen for Prince William County’s 13th high school.

The school, which will be located at 13150 University Boulevard in Gainesville, has been named Gainesville High School. The naming was approved at the Prince William County School Board’s June 10 meeting, where the board also named the school’s library media center in honor of Officer Ashley Marie Guindon and its Student Services Center in honor of Lillian Orlich.

Manassas police chief clarifies statement on city rioters: “We were not chased”

A week after Manassas City Police Chief Douglas Keen had told Manassas City Council that he was chased by 200 protestors during a riot on Sunday, May 31, he’s clarified his earlier statement.

“So I said chased, I own those words, I said ‘em. Retreated and moving back would be a better description. We were not chased down the street, being chased by a bully with rocks being thrown at us. We were pushed backwards and continued to move into Battery Heights,” Keen said during a meeting of the Manassas City Coucnil on Monday, June 8.

Fredericksburg branch of Children’s Museum of Richmond closes

The Children’s Museum of Richmond announced it is permanently closing its Fredericksburg location at 1275 Jefferson Davis Highway.

The closure was described as a cost-cutting measure during the coronavirus pandemic.

Northam outlines school reopening plan, Stafford considers shorter school days

Schools will be opening in the fall, at least in some capacity.

Gov. Ralph Northam announced at his June 9 briefing that the schools will be opening in phases that correlate to the phases of general reopening.

3 DUI cases reported on Stafford County roads

The Stafford sheriff’s office reports three cases of DUI in the past two days.

He was subsequently held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on an unsecure bond.

This week’s work zones on I-95 near Fredericksburg

Now through early Sunday, June 14 overnight travelers may experience delays with work zones this week in the Fredericksburg area of Interstate 95.

Milling and paving on I-95 will continue near the Exit 140 Diverging Diamond Interchange in Stafford County, as well as various construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project and the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
