Fredericksburg will spend over $500,000 on the Sophia Street Parking garage.

Recently the City Council decided to utilize surplus motor fuel taxes to be used in various transportation projects that have been included in the Fiscal Year 2020 budget. These taxes are collected at the pump and used to fund Virginia Railway Express (VRE) and the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC OmniRide), of which Fredricksburg is members of both entities.


A Stafford County sheriff’s deputy found a driver of a truck left the roadway, drove across a yard, and through a chain-link fence before becoming stuck, the sheriff’s office says.

Stafford County has enabled all of its students to have an electronic device for the next school year.

On June 16, the Stafford County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the purchase of 9,000 Chromebooks for students, a motion that has been in the works for months. Funding for the $1.1 million purchase will likely come from the CARES Act.


The correct number of children is eight, said Prince William fire and rescue spokesman Matt Smolksy. Initially, the reported total was 12.

Smolksy also tells us the fire was sparked by a smoldering cigarette left on a balcony.


A police pursuit in North Stafford ended with a vehicle careening through a gate and crashing into a ditch, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office tells us.

On June 15 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Deputy E. Taylor observed a Mitsubishi Lancer speeding on Garrisonville Road in the area of Doc Stone Road. The vehicle then proceeded through a red light onto Salisbury Drive without stopping.
