Stafford Cares is a county-wide initiative that includes a number of new programs and projects fostering the well-being of Stafford citizens and businesses. These programs are designed to help many in need, as our community recovers from the impact of the Coronavirus.
Stafford Cares projects will address a number of social and economic impacts from mental health, physical health, and financial stability in Stafford.
Another winter storm has our area in its sights. It could arrive tomorrow night and affect the region through Thursday morning.

Oh! Market near Manassas recently opened their mini-food court with take-out options for sushi, Korean cuisine and Mexican-fusion dishes. K-Bop, Wasabiko and Taco-Chinoz are food court vendors specific to Oh! Market.
Oh! Market stocks a variety of international grocery items from many cultures, like the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Mexico, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East and more. The food court normally has dine-in options, but due to COVID will only take out.
Construction is progressing on a project to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County, and northbound drivers can expect a slight traffic shift in the work zone beginning Monday, Feb. 15.
Both northbound travel lanes will remain open. But as construction enters the next phase, northbound traffic will be shifted around 20 feet to the right to cross Potomac Creek. This shift allows crews to build the northbound lanes on the new bridge.
The Fredericksburg City Council approved a grant for $76,000 for the City Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team.
The grant was originally awarded to the fire department in October 2019 through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management which got funding from the Department of Homeland Security.
Snow is forecast for the Fredericksburg area starting early Sunday morning, and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are preparing for this weekend’s inclement weather.
On Saturday, motorists in the Fredericksburg area should be alert for a mobile VDOT operation to pre-treat Interstate 95 and interstate ramps with a salt brine solution in advance of the storm. Pre-treatment will begin Saturday morning.
DRUGS
300 block of Garrisonville Road, 2/4, 12:36 a.m. Deputy J.J. Yenchak stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The deputy identified the driver as Abdul Kargbo Jr., 18, of Woodbridge. Upon a search of the vehicle, a controlled substance was located. Kargbo was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and released on a $2,500 unsecured bond. A passenger in the vehicle was discovered to be wanted out of Prince William County and was taken into custody.
Stafford County Public Schools introduced a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) course, Emergency Medical Telecommunications, in the 2020-2021 school year. Thirteen students took the International Academy of Emergency Dispatchers (IAED) certification test recently, earning basic IAED certification.
“I am so proud of the work they completed in a brand new and unknown course,” said Virginia EMS Education Coordinator Rebecca Raines. “Certification by the IAED attests to the specific and highly specialized knowledge, skills, and attributes of emergency telecommunicators, dispatchers, mentors, quality assurance/quality improvement specialists, and instructors.”
