Stafford County, Va. –– There is renewed talk about improving Stafford’s roads following the death of a high school student.

Every road in the county should be reviewed for safety, said Board of Supervisor’s Chairman Mark Dudenhefer earlier this month. But he focused specifically on Mountain View Road – a two-lane thoroughfare that is used to transport commuters to and from work, and students to Mountain View High School.


Woodbridge, Va. –– It’s a bust for a new commuter slug line from Woodbridge to Alexandria.

The new line, which was scheduled to begin Tuesday at the Virginia Railway Express station in Woodbridge, was going to the first slug line to take commuters to Old Town Alexandria.


Stafford, Va. –– Two local organizations have been awarded grant money to help insure children without health insurance.

Through a special grant between Virginia and the Stafford County Head Start Program, children up to age 19 are now eligible to receive comprehensive health coverage, according to Virginia’s Project Connect.


Stafford sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Muscleman Road just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, off U.S. 17 in the southern portion of the county, after a woman said she was attacked by a man who was standing in her living room.

The woman was in her attic when she heard what sounded like “cats playing and knocking things over” in her living room, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. (more…)


Stafford County, Va. –– Some held tightly to the harness of the dog by their side and some walked with crutches or canes. Still others rolled through the door in a wheelchair and some briskly walked into the University of Mary Washington Stafford Campus unassisted.

But they all entered the Job Fair for Individuals with Disabilities with determination.


A new 16-question customer survey aimed at those who frequent the county’s economic development office  asks respondents to rate their satisfaction levels with such departments like public works, utilities, zoning approvals, their overall satisfaction with county staff members and asks them to compare their experience working with Stafford County officials to those in other area jurisdictions. Woodbridge, Va. –– Ongoing work at a Woodbridge railroad crossing means it could take longer for fire and rescue crews to get to the Featherstone Shores neighborhood.

Traffic on busy Featherstone Road has been reduced to one lane across the rail road crossing, which is the gate way to the collection of single family homes that sit on the Belmont Bay.


North Stafford, Va. –– The man charged in connection to a robbery at a North Stafford gas station was looking to rob again, and is connected to a New York City street gang, authorities said.

Roberto Roque, 24, was arrested Oct. 12 in connection to the robbery at the Sunoco station on Va. 610 on Sept. 25, Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said Tuesday.


Stafford County, Va. –– A string of cars was broken into in the St. Georges Estates neighborhood of Stafford County, investigators said.

The larcenies from autos occurred between the late Thursday evening and early Friday morning in the neighborhood that sits off Joshua Drive behind Va. 610.
