Highway chase leads to arrest

Stafford County, Va. –– A chase along Interstate 95 in Stafford County led to an arrest.

A county sheriff’s deputy at 2:50 p.m. Dec. 27 tried to stop a driver on Centreport Parkway.

The driver of the car he was speeding, ignored the deputy, and then got onto the highway and sped off in the northbound direction.

The deputy gave chase, caught up with the car, watched it weave in and out of traffic and eventually into the far left lane, and then pulled the car over, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Once stopped, the deputy got out of his car and saw the driver of the fleeing car – which had now stopped – move into the passenger seat.

He told the driver to open the door, but he didn’t. Another command – show your hands – was also ignored, said Kennedy.

Eventually the man did get out of the car, lied on the ground and showed his hands.

The man went on to fail several field sobriety tests administered by the pursuing deputy, as well as another deputy who was called to assist, said Kennedy.

Peter Pozeg, 21, of Telegraph Road in North Stafford, is charged with eluding police, speeding in excess 80 mph, and with driving under the influence of alcohol, according to court records.
