Stafford, Va. –– Congressman Rob Wittman met with a group of small business owners Friday at a popular Stafford County restaurant as part of his efforts to rally the vote as he takes on Democratic challenger Krystal Ball for Virginia’s 1st congressional seat.

During the meeting, he told attendees that government should relax restrictions placed on small businesses, create a new energy policy that includes nuclear energy and conservation, and to repeal the healthcare overhaul passed last year by congress. (more…)


Dumfries, Va. –– Have you ever heard the one about the civil war soldier in Dumfries who didn’t know his way to Potomac Mills? How about the janitor who’s been dead for years but can still be seen at Dumfries Elementary School?

Those who attended the ghost walk at the Weems-Botts Museum Friday night got an earful of these haunted tales, and got to hear the voices of what are said to be the ghosts of two little girls who live in the Weems-Botts house, captured on audio tape.


Stafford, Va. –– Stafford County’s courthouse complex is one step closer to a new addition.

The county’s board of supervisors approved a $266,000 contract for the design of the new 11,000 square foot, $3.3 million courthouse annex, which will be located next to the courthouse and county administration offices in Stafford.


VDOT hosted the event to allow citizens to view documents, maps, drawings, and reports that comprise the EA for the Interstate 95 HOT Lanes corridor.

The opportunity session was listed on the VDOT web site and public notices have been published in area newspapers.


Stafford County, Va. –– Got hazardous waste materials? Stafford County officials want you to know where to drop them off for free this weekend.

The Stafford County Landfill on Eskimo Hill Road will allow residents of the county and Fredericksburg to deposit hazardous waste in a safe and environmentally friendly way, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, said Stafford spokeswoman Cathy Riddle.


Stafford, Va. –– Some elementary school students in Stafford County may be forced to change schools.

Public school officials will hold a series of public meetings this month on the proposed relocation of several elementary school students from Falmouth, Stafford, Moncure, Grafton Village and Ferry Farm elementary schools.


The meeting will be held from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Moncure Elementary School, off Va. 610 in North Stafford.

The southern portion of the proposed toll lanes would be constructed between Dumfries and Massaponax in Spotsylvania County. The northern portion of the lanes would replace the existing High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, between Dumfries and the Pentagon. (more…)


North Stafford, Va. –– One man is behind bars today after an early-morning shooting at a North Stafford commuter lot.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the lot off Staffordboro Boulevard and Va. 610 just before 1 a.m. Friday, after a man told a 911 dispatcher that the husband of the woman he was seeing shot at him.
