Jesse Jensen of Dumfries didn’t think he’d end up a veteran and business owner, not with the way he started out in life.

Growing up in Michigan in a home rampant with domestic violence, Jensen saw his father, who had a drinking problem, arrested several times.

“Wishful” and “dirty” recycling reduces the value of the commodity household recycling becomes once it is collected. Many people throw more than they should into their recycling containers because they think “the hauler will sort it at the facility,” and so they don’t feel the need to be extra cautious about how they sort.

WOODBRIDGE — Things got a little more exciting in Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Region recently when the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, Md. and Northern Virginia were named as finalists in the Amazon’s search for an east coast hub.

Dubbed “Amazon HQ2,” cities from all over the U.S. this past fall entered the contest, hoping the largest online retailer would choose their city, town, or county as the retailer’s second headquarters. The new offices would bring some 50,000 jobs to wherever the company decides to locate its HQ2. The second headquarters is billed as a complete equal to the company’s sprawling headquarters in Seattle.

WOODBRIDGE — Like little control freaks, people flock to Duck Donuts because they like to demand what toppings come on their doughnuts. The shop, with locations in Bristow, Stafford, and Woodbridge, offers toppings Oreo Cookies, vanilla drizzle, to bacon bits.

“We had a lot of demand for doughnut holes while people would see them being made for catering packages, wanting to know if they could buy them in smaller batches in the store. So now we’re offering them in a small, medium, and large size for customers during the week,” said Duck Donuts owner Larry Scherer.
