Places like Prince William County are expected to benefit from the changes, but industry insiders disagree on what type of housing development will dominate the post-pandemic landscape.

Northern Virginia Community College is partnering with the City of Manassas, Prince William County, Virginia Career Works, and the SkillSource Group to ensure that community members affected by coronavirus are able to get back to work by receiving free education and workforce support services.
Manassas and Prince William County’s leadership forged this strategic partnership with a combined $1,900,000 in funding from the CARES Act to launch the ELEVATE program to provide free resources for those displaced workers. Additionally, this funding supports businesses in upskilling their workforce.
Stafford County remains focused on providing support to businesses as they recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
As part of that continued support, the Stafford County Economic Development Authority has launched three small business assistance grants in August: Stay, Sleep, and Safe in Stafford. The authority is extending the application deadline with new eligibility revisions to broaden eligibility for businesses impacted by the coronavirus.
The Fredericksburg City Council has approved the zoning changes necessary to bring its long-talked-about creative maker district to life.
At its latest meeting, the Fredericksburg City Council passed the unified development ordinance which creates the creative maker district, clearing the way for a rezoning of over 78 acres within Area 6, which lies between the Rappahannock River and the Rappahannock Canal. The new district also includes the a portion of the Princess Anne Street and the Jefferson Davis Highway corridors, known as the Old Mill District.
Leadership Prince William Signature Program will announce the winner of the Kathy Ellington Alumni Leadership Award on Sept. 24.
The award is given to past graduates of Leadership Prince William who “used their vision, leadership, skills and talents to accomplish something notable,” said executive director Andrea Money.
A decision on parking spaces could clear the way for a new Lidl grocery store in North Stafford.
The county Board of Supervisors approved new rules that would require fewer parking spaces at new buildings built in the county. Discount grocer Lidl, which has a location on Warrenton Road in south Stafford, lobbied for the new rules.
