New name cleared for takeoff: ‘Aviator Avenue’ to replace Observation Road

City leaders will take another look today, Monday, Oct. 20, 2025 at redevelopment plans for the Manassas Shopping Center, the city’s 2026 legislative wish list for Richmond, and a proposal to name a new road near the Manassas Regional Airport “Aviator Avenue.”

The City Council work session begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Conference Room, 9027 Center Street. No votes are expected, but the discussion will set the stage for future public hearings and decisions.

Protect Stafford (Facebook) – Protect Stafford announced its position ahead of the October 21, 2025 Joint Public Hearing of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission. The group urged supervisors to “adopt meaningful standards” for data centers at the meeting, warning that any delay could allow projects to proceed under weaker rules.

Update on last night’s power outage in Manassas

A transformer malfunction at the Prince William Substation left nearly 4,000 residents and businesses in the dark Sunday night — the third major outage in just over a week to hit the city.

City officials said the outage began around 9:30 p.m. when a bushing failed on a transformer, triggering an automatic shutdown of part of the system. Crews were dispatched immediately and used backfeeding, a method of rerouting electricity through alternate lines, to restore service. Power was fully restored by 10:30 p.m.

A countywide showcase of music and community spirit will return next month as Stafford County’s five high school marching bands come together for the 15th annual Band Together to Fight Hunger event.

Manassas & Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee (Facebook) – “No Kings 2.0 in Manassas did not disappoint!” the group wrote on Facebook. The post noted a large crowd, music provided by Circle of Toads, and a powerful message from Sheyna Burt, representing the ACLU.

The group described the event as “entirely peaceful” and said it was the largest protest to date, as more citizens are speaking out both locally and across the country.

Today — Monday, October 20, 2025 — many local schools are closed for Diwali, a non-federal holiday.

Earlier this month, on Columbus Day (October 13), teachers in several school divisions — including Prince William County, Stafford County, and Fredericksburg City — were required to work for staff development while students stayed home.
