STAFFORD — Two of the three police officers politicians promised parents would protect Stafford’s elementary school are in place.

Sheriff David Decatur is working to hire the third deputy to make good on the $481,000 promise to place school protection officers in three county elementary schools. When the elementary school protection officer pilot program was approved by the Stafford County Board of Supervisors in May, the goal was to have the three part-time deputies in place by the start of the 2018-19 school year.

MANASSAS — City leaders Monday approved half a million dollars to improve a major thoroughfare at the Manassas Regional Airport.

The city plans to widen Wakeman Drive and to add pedestrian improvements such as bike lanes. The improvements are designed to make the area more desirable and to attract more business to the area.

WOODBRIDGE — The next fire chief for the city of Austin Texas is Joel Baker, the former chief in Atlanta.

Prince William County Fire and Rescue Chief Kevin McGee was one of three finalists for the job. He interviewed at a public forum in Texas in late October with two other finalists, including Baker.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Prince William leaders kicked the can down the road Tuesday over a rezoning that would have cleared the way for 104 new homes near Manassas.

After nearly 100 people who came to the Board of Supervisors meeting to speak on the matter, Coles District Supervisor Marty Nohe motioned to defer the decision to January 22 to give more time to for the developer to address the concerns of the community. It passed with Occoquan Supervisor Ruth Anderson voting against.

WOODBRIDGE — The candidates are lining up to be the next Prince William County At-large Supervisor.

Ann Wheeler, a Democrat, and Don Scoggins, an independent, followed Republican Marty Nohe in announcing he would seek the Chairman seat held for the past 12 years by Corey Stewart.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Glendel “Glen” Hill is seeking a fifth term as Prince William County Sheriff.

Hill announced his re-election bid this week, noting he wants to continue “to build upon the accomplishments his office has achieved over the last 15 years.”

BRISTOW — Those working to protect and improve Prince William County’s rural area say it will be a campaign issue in 2019.

But it could be until 2020 before voters see policies reviewed and action is taken, they add.
