The owners of Aquia Town Center are working with Stafford County officials on a plan to fix nagging stormwater issues at the site of the old shopping center, despite a county-imposed deadline coming and going.

It’s still the hope of the property owners, Mosaic Realty Partners of Baltimore, and Stafford County leaders that, despite years of the site sitting dormant, something may be built to replace the once-thriving strip mall.

It might be the only place in the region aiming to reduce the number of lanes on a street.

Under a plan to remake South Grant Avenue, the street will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes, with right and left-turn lanes in certain sections between Lee Avenue and Wellington Road. If built, the new conditions would match what already exists on North Grant Avenue, between Lee Avenue and Sudley Road.


Prince William

A campaign volunteer for Neabsco District School Board member Diane Raulston collected signatures to get the candidate on the November ballot before having her voting rights restored.

Prior to the restoration of her voting rights on April 10, 2019, the campaign volunteer was barred from participating in the electoral process. Of the 144 validated signatures she submitted, only 87 of them were collected after her rights were restored.

Prince William County, which has the largest of the school divisions in the Potomac Local coverage area with 92,000 students, is headed back to school today.

Buses will pick up some 62,000 students and travel some 56,000 miles in the county. Those yellow, flashing lights to indicate school speed zone limits will also flash once again for the first time since June.

Prince William County announced it’s now home to five million square feet of data center space.

The new centers are popping up in the western portion of the county, many of them opening with little or no fanfare, opting to keep their locations as private as possible. So far, we’ve seen data center spring up off Prince William Parkway near Gainesville, off Route 55 in Haymarket, as well as new construction for data centers occurring now on Hornbaker Road near Manassas, as well as near the Manassas Regional Airport.

MANASSAS — Dr. Bruce McDade will host business leaders and residents at a first-of-its-kind back-to-school brunch.

Entering his 10th year as Manassas Park Schools Superintendent, McDade says he wants to use the event tell the story of Manassas Park City Public Schools, which have been a bright spot in recent years as the city works to get out from under crushing debt it occurred with the financing of new public buildings like the city’s community center and police station.

Editors note: This story was prompted by a news tip emailed to us by a reader: “Sharing something I came across.  Very disappointing!  According to VDOT the Route 1 widening is a year behind schedule.  It was originally due to be completed the fall of 2019 and it’s now showing a completion date in Fall of 2020.  Hoping you can check into why. 

The completion date for the project to widen Route 1 between Mary’s Way and the Occoquan River has, indeed, been delayed until fall 2020. It had been set for this year.
