Statewide school shutdown | Prince William schools provide details

Prince William County Public Schools will close following a statewide order today from Gov. Ralph Northam.

We’re told that county schools will be closed to students effective Saturday, March 14, until April 14, and that this closure, in response to the coronavirus spread, may be extended depending on the situation.

Mason, NOVA, Germanna move classes online in wake of coronavirus outbreak

Update | We’ve now learned George Mason University and Germanna Community College will move all classes online.

To limit exposure on our campus, [George] Mason is extending spring break by an additional week through March 20. This will allow students and faculty to prepare for virtual alternative instruction and reduce close contact on campus.

Schools outline plans for closures in case of widespread coronavirus

School officials in Prince William County today outlined how they would decide to close schools in the case of a widespread coronavirus outbreak.

As of March 10, there have been no changes to the regular school schedule. All student field trips are scheduled as planned, the school buildings are undergoing regular cleaning.

Man found shot, Woodbridge woman faces charges

Police were called to the Kensington Place Apartments, in the 2200 block of York Drive in Woodbridge on Saturday, March 7 at 6:57 a.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. 

When officers arrived, they found evidence of an altercation that happened outside one of the apartments. However, the officers didn’t see anyone in the area.

Special Coverage: Virginia reports 8 coronavirus cases, area hospitals on alert

Officials in Loudoun County hold a press conference to announce the county's first presumptive case of coronavirus.

Virginia health officials are now reporting eight cases of suspected coronavirus in the state. That number is up by three from earlier this morning.

The newest cases include a “presumptive” case in Loudoun County and two in Virginia Beach. In Loudoun, the presumptive positive case is a patient is in their 40s who is believed to have come in contact with a person with coronavirus while attending Christ Church in Georgetown, in Washington, D.C. The Loudoun County Health Department learned about this patient early Tuesday morning following testing for the novel coronavirus by the Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services in Richmond, the county states in a press release.

Loaded gun found at Mountain View High School, student charged

A student at Mountain View High School faces charges after a loaded weapon was found on campus.

Deputies were called to the school at 2135 Mountain View Road in Stafford County at 11:20 a.m. They found a loaded 40 caliber Taurus handgun inside a gym locker. A School Resource Officer received information that a 14- year-old student had a gun in the school, the sheriff’s office tells Potomac Local News.

Updated: Suspicious item reported at Micron deemed safe

Update | Manassas police tell Potomac Local News today that officers were called to Micron Technologies early Sunday morning to investigate a report of a suspicious item.

After a police investigation, the item in question was not deemed to be suspicious, said city police spokeswoman Sarah Maroney.

MGM National Harbor aids police after Dale City shooting, 2 sought

Police are searching for three men wanted in connection to a shooting that was reported in 4700 block of Pearson Drive Dale City on December 19, 2019.

The men are accused of following the victim and his acquaintance from MGM National Harbor casino to Pearson Drive in Dale City where the victim was robbed at gunpoint and then shot.
