Police shut down U.S. 29 in Gainesville as protestors spill onto highway

They left the area. Now they’re back.

Police are now working to close a portion of U.S. Route 29 in Gainesville as protestors are filing down an exit ramp from Linton Hall Road and walking onto the six-lane thoroughfare that connects Interstate 66 and Charlottesville 81 miles to the south.

Protesters on Falmouth bridge target family with child, CS gas deployed

Protestors clashed with the Stafford sheriff’s deputies again Monday night, this time of the Falmouth Bridge over the Rappahannock River.

A group of protestors was marching on the bridge that links Stafford County to Fredericksburg City at about 6:30 p.m., with arms linked, blocking all four lanes of traffic, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Amanda Vicinanzo.

Protesters descend on Manassas for third day of demonstation

Prince William County Sheriff Glendell Hill meets with protestors outside the county courthouse.

Protesters fanned out across Manassas on Monday afternoon in the latest in a series of protests in the Manassas area in the past three days, following the death of 46-year-old George Floyd, in Minneapolis.

Floyd was killed during an arrest attempt on May 25. Former police officer Derek Chauvin is charged in his death.

Prince William elementary schools to get new roofs

Featherstone Elementary School, located at 14805 Blackburn Road in Woodbridge

Three elementary schools in Prince William County will have their roofs replaced.

Earlier this year, the Prince William County School Board approved contracts for replacing roofs at Marshall Elementary School, at 12505 Kahns Road near Dale City, and Pennington Traditional School, located at 9305 Stonewall Road in Manassas, from the Northeast Contracting Corporation.

Face mask order issued for Prince William courthouse

Prince William County Sheriff Glendell Hill has donated 5,000 face masks for use at the county courthouse.

If you plan on visiting the Prince William County Courthouse, you’ll need to bring a face mask.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, Chief Judge Tracy C. Hudson of the 31st Judicial Circuit Court issued a mandatory face-covering order.

Newly appointed Prince William jail board member vowed to abolish 287(g) immigration program

Virginia Delegate Elizabeth Guzman (D-31, Dale City, Fauquier) has a new seat on the Prince William County Jail Board.

Guzman opposes the county’s 287(g) program and has vowed to have it abolished. As the jail board oversees the program, now she may have her chance.

Prince William residents rally to keep 287(g) immigration program in county jail

Residents rallied outside the Prince William County Government Center at 1 o’clock in the afternoon Tuesday in support of longstanding policy used to combat illegal immigration.

The protestors’ signs stated “Save 287(g),” which is a program that checks the legal status of those who have been arrested and charged with a crime. In Prince Wiliam County — one of only two jurisdictions that utilize the program, those checks are done as the suspect is processed into the county jail. If the inmate is found to be in the country illegally, they’re turned over to federal customs and immigration officials.
