The Stafford County Government is one step closer to creating a new advisory board that would focus on discrimination and human rights violations.

A charter for the new group states the advisory board would provide recommendations to the Stafford Board of Supervisors about how to better deliver government services to the county minority community, as well as suggest community events that would work to “celebrate diversity, and inclusion, and equity county-wide.”


Prince William

The effort to build a bypass around Manassas City hit a road block today after it failed to gain the support of the elected supervisor of the district where the would would be built.

Prince William County Coles District Supervisor Yesli Vega announced her opposition the project that would extend the four lanes of Godwin Drive from its terminus near the Novant/UVA Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas through a residential neighborhood, connecting it with Route 28 in Fairfax County.

Prince William

Very little public business was discussed during a day-long work session on Thursday, July 30, attended by members of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

Elected leaders had hinted during a July 21 meeting the would once again take up the matter of an asphalt plant that could be built near the Blackburn residential neighborhood on Balls Ford Road near Manassas during the work session held at Chinn Park Regional Library in Lake Ridge. A decision by the board on whether or not to issue a special use permit to allow an asphalt plant is more than 10-months overdue.


Business

On Monday, July 27, Manassas City Council approved BHP Enterprises LLC’s application for a subdivision to create 85 townhome lots and 20 single-family detached lots, known as Jefferson Square.

According to Manassas Planning and Development Director Matt Arcieri, the next steps for the City are final site plan approval will be the city’s issuance of a site development permit allowing the developer to begin land clearing activities.

Virginia high school football players won’t take the field until at least February, but that didn’t stop an enterprising 16 -year-old from organizing his own impromptu football.

Students from Potomac, Freedom, Stafford, North Stafford, Mountain View, Chancellor, Riverbend, Colonial Forge, Courtland, and Brooke Point high schools converged on the fields at Embrey Mill Park in Stafford County last weekend for a series of football games.

A new 140-foot tower will be used to provide internet service for 216 homes in the Marlborough Point section of Stafford County.

The Board of Supervisors approved the tower in a unanimous vote during its July 7 meeting.
