Metro today announced plans to accelerate major capital work on the Blue Line in Virginia that will modernize the signal system in the Alexandria Rail Yard, resulting in improved safety, reliability and on-time performance.
Prince William County, in conjunction with the Fairfax County Department of Transportation, will hold a virtual information session regarding the Route 28 Bypass project on Dec. 7, 2020, at 7 p.m. The $300 million infrastructure project, one of the largest in the history of Prince William County, is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improve travel reliability, and address other transportation challenges in the area.
The meeting is meant to inform residents of both counties about the project background, efforts to date, and the current status, focusing on proposed concepts for the Route 28 Bypass connection and tie-in point to the existing Route 28 in Fairfax County.

Prince William County residents will be asked about what they want to see in a new superintendent for its public school division.
The Prince William County School Board has initiated its search for a new superintendent to replace Dr. Steven Walts upon his retirement June 30, 2021. The search process is being conducted by a national search firm, BWP & Associates, with the goal of identifying a slate of highly qualified candidates from which the School Board will select the next superintendent.
The week of November 29 will be a busy one as multiple boards and commissions will be meeting.

Washington, D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham will become the top cop in Prince William County.
The Board of County Supervisors hired Newsham today after a day-long interview session at Old Hickory Golf Club in Woodbridge. He was one of our top four finalists from a pool of 50 candidates who applied for the position, to include acting Police Chief Col. Jarad Phelps, who’s been serving as the county’s top cop since former Chief Barry Barnard retired on June 1.
Students at Manassas City Public Schools are returning to the classroom for the first time since March.
Special Education students returned to the classroom on November 4. In December, the city School Board is set to vote on when to return the remainder of the school division’s nearly 8,000 students to the classroom, up to three days per week.

A Stafford woman told law enforcement authorities she hired a cleaning company to come into her home and later found a tote bag containing two sets of wedding rings were missing.
The victim reported the theft to police on Friday, November 13, according to the Staford County Sheriff’s Office. The cleaning company was inside the victim’s home on November 12, according to the sheriff’s office.
